BEGIN ACT 2 FADE IN on TASHA lying motionless on the transporter pad. SISKO walks up closer to TASHA. He looks to his right and left at DAX, KIRA, and O'BRIEN, then back at TASHA again. SISKO: Who is she? O'BRIEN: My God, . . . (stepping forward slowly, looking at TASHA) that's Tasha Yar. She was the security chief aboard the Enterprise. SISKO (looking at O'BRIEN, confused): I thought WORF was the chief of security. O'BRIEN (looking at SISKO): He WAS, but SHE was the ORIGINAL. (looking back at TASHA) She died almost ten years ago. SISKO looks back at TASHA, more confused than ever. DAX crouches down and scans TASHA with her tricorder. DAX: She's dead, (looks up at SISKO) but there's a chance we might STILL be able to save her! O'BRIEN (looking at DAX, confused): How is that possible? DAX (looking at O'BRIEN): I don't know. All I know is we gotta get her back to the station NOW! SISKO immediately swings around and walks out the door, followed by everyone else exept DAX, who stays with TASHA, monitoring her vital signs. Show the BRIDGE. SISKO and the others walk onto it. SISKO: Chief, get us back to the station! Full impulse power!!! O'BRIEN (returning to his station): Aye, sir!!! KIRA also returns to her station. O'BRIEN punches in the speed. Show the DEFIANT going back through the Wormhole at full impulse power. Show O'BRIEN at the console. O'BRIEN: We've cleared the Wormhole, sir. SISKO gets up and taps his Comm Badge. SISKO: Sisko to Doctor Bashir, I have a medical emergency on the Defiant!!! This woman is dead! She needs emergency medical treatment!!! Lock on to her signal in the transporter room and beam her directly to Sickbay!!! BASHIR (over the comm): Yes, Captain! Show the TRANSPORTER ROOM. Within less than a second, TASHA is beamed off. Show SICKBAY with DOCTOR BASHIR waiting. TASHA is beamed onto a table by the Sickbay's transporter system. DOCTOR BASHIR immediately rushes over. BASHIR: Medical Log, patient dead! (picks up a syringe) Injecting her with Paridaxon! (places Neural Stimulator over her) Going for Direct Reticular Stimulation, starting at 300 microvolts!!! TASHA'S body jumps in response, but that's all. BASHIR then knows that 300 won't do it. BASHIR: 900! Another jump. BASHIR: 1200! Jump. BASHIR: 3000!!! Higher jump. BASHIR: 9000!!! Even higher jump. BASHIR: 12000!!!!!! A HUGE jump. This time, TASHA let's out a moan and starts breathing heavily. She then moves her eyelids weakly, although not lifting them completely. BASHIR: All right, patient is alive! Continuing to monitor vital signs! At that moment, the doors swish open and SISKO walks in, followed by O'BRIEN, DAX, and KIRA. O'BRIEN rushes out in front and over to TASHA. BASHIR looks at O'BRIEN, then at the rest of them. BASHIR (smiling): She's going to be just fine. SISKO smiles and nods. O'BRIEN looks over at BASHIR and smiles, then looks back at TASHA. TASHA, except for heavy breathing, is lying motionless and not making a sound. BASHIR (looking at SISKO): She's sleeping right now, but she should wake up soon. TASHA tosses her head back and forth, moaning. BASHIR kneels in front of her. TASHA opens her eyes, tilting her head towards BASHIR. TASHA: (weakly) Mmmmm, innnnhhh, where am I? BASHIR grabs hold of TASHA's right arm. BASHIR (nodding): It's all right. You're safe. You're on Deep Space Nine. TASHA (weakly): Deep Space Where? BASHIR: It's a space station. TASHA blinks in surprise. TASHA: (weakly) But I was just on Vagra Two. BASHIR looks at SISKO questionably. SISKO shrugs. BASHIR looks back at TASHA, leans forward, and takes her hands in his. BASHIR: What's your name? TASHA looks away in the other direction for a moment, trying to remember, then looks back at BASHIR. TASHA: (weakly) Tasha Yar. BASHIR bites his lip. BASHIR (shaking her hands) All right, Tasha, you're going to be all right. Just try and get some rest now. TASHA (shaking her head, still speaking weakly) No, no, no, we . . . have to rescue Deanna from the shuttle. TASHA breathes heavily. BASHIR looks up at O'BRIEN, then back down at TASHA again. BASHIR: Deanna's safe. She's just fine. Now try and get some rest, and we'll talk later. TASHA nods. TASHA (closing her eyes): All right . . . (yawns) goodnight. BASHIR stares at her for a moment before responding. BASHIR: Sleep tight. BASHIR looks off to the left, gently lets go of TASHA'S hands and lets them fall on the table, then stands up straight. BASHIR turns towards SISKO. BASHIR: I want to know everything about this woman so we'll know what to tell her when she wakes up. SISKO: Doctor, we could find out A LOT about her (shaking his head) and we STILL wouldn't know what to tell her. BASHIR stares at him, his expression unchanged. SISKO turns towards the door. SISKO: Let's go to the Observation Lounge. (starts walking, with BASHIR following him) Mr. O'Brien, join us. O'BRIEN (following them) Aye, sir. The three of them walk out the door. DAX and KIRA watch them leave, then turn back to look at TASHA, sleeping soundly. Show TASHA sleeping. Show the OBSERVATION LOUNGE. The doors swish open, and SISKO, BASHIR, and O'BRIEN walk in. All three of them have a seat. SISKO: Now, Chief, what can you tell us about Lt. Yar? O'BRIEN: Well, . . . she was the security chief on the Enterprise ten years ago. SISKO (nodding): The Enterprise-D, correct? O'BRIEN (nodding): That's right. Anyway, she was killed during an Away Mission to rescue the occupants of a shuttle that had crash-landed on a planet on its way back to the Enterprise. One of the two occupants was Deanna Troi, the ship's counselor-the one she mentioned. SISKO nods. O'BRIEN (shaking his head): That's all I know. We'll have to dig up copies of the Enterprise's records from Starfleet Command to find out the rest. SISKO: Perhaps Lt. Yar could be of some help. O'BRIEN: Perhaps, (looks at BASHIR) if Doctor Bashir says it's OK. BASHIR (nodding): Yes, but I think the first thing we should do is to make her aware of where she is and WHEN. SISKO (nodding): Agreed. Let's take this slowly, get her accustomed to things. (shaking his head and holding out his hands) There's no apparent danger to the station as a result of this, so we have all the time we want. O'BRIEN nods, then BASHIR nods. SISKO (nodding and getting up): Well, that's it. Gather your information, and we'll all meet back here in three hours, Lt. Yar included. O'BRIEN and BASHIR nod once more and leave the room. SISKO sits back in his chair, folds his hands in front of his face, breathes deeply, and thinks about all that has happened. Show SICKBAY. TASHA is still asleep, but the brown mark on her left cheek had been removed. The doors swish open, and BASHIR, SISKO, and O'BRIEN walk in. They walk up to TASHA. TASHA moves her head slowly from side to side, then faces the ceiling and opens her eyes. TASHA (speaking more strongly and clearly now): Where am I? BASHIR: Deep Space Nine, remember? TASHA (still looking at the ceiling): You mean it wasn't a DREAM? BASHIR (shaking his head): No. TASHA lets out a deep breath as she pushes herself up into a sitting position. She looks at BASHIR and sighs loudly. TASHA: So, . . . you mind EXPLAINING this? BASHIR (smiling and shaking his head): Not at all. (walking towards TASHA) You are onboard Space Station Deep Space Nine. (putting his hand on his chest) MY name is Doctor Julian Bashir. (turning to SISKO and O'BRIEN and pointing at them, who nod when their names are said) This is Captain Bejamin Sisko and Chief Miles Edward O'Brien. TASHA (looking at O'BRIEN and smiling, with glad surprise): I know you, you operate the Conn on the Enterprise. O'BRIEN, BASHIR, and SISKO look down and sigh. TASHA (confused): What year is this? BASHIR (looking up and sighing): 2374. TASHA is surprised at this. TASHA (whispering): What?! (shaking her head nervously and speaking louder) That's not possible! BASHIR: I'm afraid it IS. TASHA: Well, . . . how . . . how did I GET here?! BASHIR: We're going to have a meeting specifically about that. We want you to join us. TASHA: The way I see it, I have EVERY RIGHT to join. TASHA quickly gets off the table and stands on the floor. She quickly becomes dizzy and falls forward. DOCTOR BASHIR quickly catches her and steadies her. BASHIR: Woah, woah, you OK? TASHA places a hand on her forehead. TASHA (looking up at BASHIR and nodding): Yeah, yeah, I'm FINE. I've just got one BASTARD of a headache, that's all. BASHIR (laughing): Yeah, well, I'll give you something for that later. (puts his right arm around TASHA and points to the door with his head) C'mon, let's go. SISKO and O'BRIEN walk out the door, followed by BASHIR and TASHA. FADE OUT END ACT 2
